Installation scribble-sketches
This installation sketch is about the tension between conservative values and progressive ideals -- the tension between retaining what we know works best about our civilization from our cultural and lifetime experience and on the other hand, knowing what must change, what should have been given a measure of justice decades and centuries ago... but all changes have unintended consequences and all changes unanticipated setbacks.
In the wedding ring box, the cicada, as old as the dinosaurs, fearsome, gorgeous, disgusting, gentle and fearsome,... what better symbol for marriage and union both hetero and homo... The clock, as time goes by, the knit scarf unraveling upon the bible... the safety goggles on the computer router upon the fabric cutter... the fabric of our society is in question and an election that juggles these priorities, hopes and fears.
Despite our obsession with having adversaries, without conservative to maintain what holds us together and progressives to heal the injustice present every day, there is no America.
This doodle doesn't do it justice, but its a way to use simple objects to discuss what is so very difficult to talk about.

30 Year Commemoration of Diabetes in containers sketch
This installation sketch is about diabetes. I still have two years to complete it. This incorporates the many vials of insulin, countless test strips inside old whiskey bottles symbolic of dependence and shame. The Mason jar full of blue reservoir-filling adapters aims at symbolizing science/life saving engineering and also a home-canning kind of traditionalism.
I am definitely still working on this one... the works closest to our experience are always the hardest and most painful to construct wisely.
